Kristie Speck's Frequently Asked Questions

Q.) What do I wear?
  • Please bring something to tie around your hips. I will bring coin scarves for rent and sale, but it doesn’t need to be that fancy, just something to help you be more aware of your hips. Wear something that makes you feel glamorous or pretty, as long as you can move in it. I like long flowing skirts over yoga pants. Done barefoot.

Q.) Where can I buy hipscarves?

  • If you don’t like the selection that I have, check out Belly Dance Oasis in Warwick R.I. or Spectrum India on Thayer St. Please tell them that I sent you.

Q.) Where do I find music?

  • I have educational practice compilation CD’s that I sell for $5 each. Also check out www.Shira.net

Q.) Why Sessions?

  • This enables me to get a better idea of class size and level, which allows me to form a realistic class plan including combinations, music, and overall group dynamics. Closing off sessions encourages group relationships and consistency.

Q.) Can I join a session after it starts?

  • In most cases yes, The first three classes are open before the add on period ends. The session is prorated. Keep in mind you will be playing catch up.

Q.) Why Preregister?

  • Again, it helps me form a curriculum, which gives you, the student a quality class. Also I have a minimum and maximum class size. Too many students get put on a waiting list. Too little and the class does not run. Most importantly though, it means you are committed. You will learn and retain faster.

Q.) Are there make-ups for missed classes in a session?

  • Yes, everyone is allowed one makeup per session more in unusual circumstances. Make-ups are the first class of a new session or any other drop in class that I offer in any location. Intermediate students are allowed to drop into a beginner class at any time for make-up or extra practice.

Q.) Why is the first class in a session so expensive?

  • This policy basically allows you to check out the class without committing to the whole session. If you like it, you pay the remainder of the rest of the session before the second class, if not, you’re not obliged to slugging out the rest of the session just because you paid for it. After seven years of teaching, I have found this saves a lot of headaches.

Q.) Do you barter?

  • Yes, Yes, and yes!!!! Just ask me, I have need for many goods and services!

Q.) Do you perform?

  • Yes, I hope to have an updated list on myspace soon.

Q.) Do you give private lessons?

A.) Yes, in my home studio. I also do outcalls and parties: call me for rates and info.
