Green and Environmental Impact Statement

In my story "Drought" an old man finds that the reservoir that feeds an entire country is going dry. No one believes him. After the drought, the entire landscape and economy of this wealthy nation has changed, as have the children's songs.

We live in challenging times -- how do we get to and from places without pumping CO2 into the atmosphere? Can we reduce our impact without destroying our quality of life?

The fact is that things are and will change over time.

Bringing an author or storyteller to your school is a cost-effective, environmentally sound way to educate your students without adding too much to the footprint of the planet.

I am also interested in the possibility of video projection performance, and wonder what that will mean in the future.

Factoids

  • I drive a 1997 Saturn with more than 140,000 miles on it.
  • The car gets between 35 and 40 mpg on the highway
  • The average school bus gets 7 mpg
  • In classroom settings, a storyteller can work with 30 to 60 students at a time, with many classes over the day.
  • During a gymnasium presentation, one storyteller can speak to 200 to 400 students.
  • Over the course of a day, one storyteller can work with 800 to 1,200 students
