Frequently Asked Questions
- How long are your programs?
- 45 minutes - more or less. I find that's about the right length for most school and library shows. If you need something longer, please ask. With the very young it may be less. With older folk it may be longer
- How long are your workshops?
- 60 to 90 to 120 minutes, depending on the age groups. Writing workshops need desks, paper and pencils or pens.
- Are they any good?
- Awsome! I keep the whole audience -- children and adults (even teachers) enthralled.
- What ages do you work with?
- All ages. Really.
Younger kids get younger stories (K-5)
Older kids get older stories (6-18)
Grown-ups get different stories. (18-108)
Preschoolers and groups with the fidgets get stories and songs.
I look at the crowd and see what they need. If a younger crowd than expected shows up, the performance will be modified.
- Is your name really Mark Binder?
- Really really. It's neither a pen name nor a pseudonym.
-
- Can you develop a program specifically for us?
- Yes--probably. Call or send an email to Beth and we'll figure it out..
- Do you use costumes and puppets or props?
- Nope. Reading, writing, speaking. Pure imagination.
- Are your programs interactive?
- Absolutely. Audiences are 100% participatory. They listen intently and ask amazing questions.
- I hear you you play the harmonica...
- A little. The harmonica is great for intros and setting the mood. It's very difficult to tell a story and play it at the same time. Impossible really. Next life, I'll learn to play guitar.
- What about songs?
- Yes, there are songs in some programs, especially for the littlest ones. Not as many for the older crowds.
- What size audience do you need?
- One or more. I've worked at small libraries and preschools, in classrooms, in cafeterias, and in auditoriums. I have a PA system that can handle crowds of up to 400.
- How about outdoor events?
- Yep. Been there, done that. I've done festivals, parks and even parking lots. Call for details.
- How much does a show cost?
- Half a million dollars in small, unmarked bills. But I discount heavily. Please contact me for details.
- How much of your material is original?
- About 70 to 80 percent, depending on the program. Some material is derived from traditional sources, and then modified.

"I thought Mark Binder was wonderful with the children. He engaged each and every one of them throughout the entire program... He even kept the teacher's laughing; he was witty and fun for everyone!"
